Airport information

Kotoka International Airport is situated 10km north of Accra. Taxis to the city are available (approx. 20 min). Current costs (May 2007) are GHC 22 000 for international departures and GHC500 for domestic departures (this should be included in your ticket, but it's always worth to double check). Rates are subject to change without warning. The airport has banks/bureaux de change, car hire, duty free shops, restaurants and tourist information.

To get from Kotaka international Airport to the Accra, it is easy to take a taxi. The rate is fixed (currently around $5 to Accra city centre). Tro-tro's (minivans) are cheaper but you'll be sharing it with a number of fellow passengers going to different locations.

The national airline is Ghana International Airlines (website: www.fly-ghana.com). Commercial operations began in October 2005. It now has a daily service from London to Accra daily. The direct flight takes six hours and 30 minutes, or eight hours 25 minutes with a stopover in Kano. Direct flight New York-Accra takes nine hours 30 minutes.

There are domestic services between Accra, Kumasi and Tamale.

When you are preparing to leave Ghana, it is good to re-confirm your international flight reservations at least 72 hours before departure.

Arrive at Kotoka International Airport at least 2 ½ hours in advance of take-off to ensure adequate time for check-in and immigration formalities.
